‘Line takes us to rhythm—so linearity infuses a sort of subdued rhythmic
structure in all my work. While textured mute colours throb with a silent vibrancy transcending the positives and merging into the negative spaces within the format taking the total to the domain of a poignant solitude—a kind of predicament which every human has to face’says the inventor of Wood Intaglio (1972-73), Engraving on Sun-mica (1975-76) and Card Board Intaglio (1975-76). He took art lessons from Government College of Arts and Crafts (1950-55), Kolkata. He was the Professor and Principal of Visva-Bharati University and retired in 1995. Many solo shows and group shows to his credit, Sanat was member of the Jury of Lalit Kala Akademi’s National Exhibition in 1978 & 1993, Birla Academy’s Annual Exhibition in 1978, 1992, 1998, All India Exhibition, Mnaipur in 1988.His works were collected by National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, British Museum, London, Pratt Graphic Centre, New York, and otherrs in India and abroad. Founder member and Secretary (1953-59) of the Society of Contemporary Artists, Sanat Kar lives and works in Santiniketan.
