Barun Roy

Born in 1937, Barun Roy is a journalist by profession and a self-trained artist. During his long journalistic career spanning almost six decades, he has served, among other positions, as Assistant Editor of Jugantar, the now defunct Bengali daily published from Kolkata. As a painter, an activity he has pursued alongside his journalistic career, Barun Roy is noted for his unconventional style and experimentation. His work is largely non-figurative, done mainly with acrylic pigments, and his approach to nature is intimate, emotional, and essentially abstract in concept and basic simplicities of form, composition, and colour.
